Job summary

CTIS, Inc. is seeking a Software Development Analyst II in Rockville, MD for a hybrid role. The candidate will lead cloud migrations of Java/J2EE applications to AWS, modernize code, and design migration patterns while minimizing disruption.

You will work hands-on across design, development, and deployment, using Docker and IaC tools, with a focus on scalable, cloud-native solutions and cost-aware governance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
• At least 5+ years of hands-on experience migrating applications onto the AWS platform.
• Solid migration experience from on-premises servers to AWS using appropriate tools and frameworks.
• Strong Java programming skills and experience with J2EE frameworks like Spring, Hibernate, and JSF.
• Strong understanding of AWS architecture and cloud computing concepts.
• Expertise in containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like CloudFormation or Terraform.
• Knowledge of database migration strategies and experience with different database systems.
• Understanding of DevOps practices for CI/CD.
• Strong problem-solving and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead Migration Execution: refine and improve components of an enterprise cloud migration effort.
• Hands-On Design & Development: design and implement migration patterns and reference code; contribute with hands-on coding.
• Application Modernization: rewrite or optimize Java code for AWS and break monoliths into modular components.
• AWS Service Integration: select and integrate AWS services to meet needs and enable disaster recovery.
• Containerization & DevOps Automation: containerize applications and automate deployments with IaC and CI/CD.
• Governance, Standards & Cost Awareness: follow cloud guidelines and optimize costs while ensuring reliability.
• Collaboration & Communication: work with SCRUM teams and stakeholders to meet migration milestones.
