Job summary

i3 in Huntsville, AL seeks a Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to provide hands-on engineering for secure, scalable cloud infrastructure supporting mission systems. You will design, deploy, and sustain cloud infrastructure, including networks, compute, storage, and security controls, with IaC automation and robust monitoring.

You will mentor and implement cloud security, IAM, and disaster recovery, while migrating legacy workloads to hybrid environments and ensuring regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent experience.
• 6+ years of infrastructure engineering with hands-on cloud experience.
• Strong experience with Azure or AWS; familiarity with both is preferred.
• Networking knowledge: TCP/IP, routing, VPN, DNS, load balancing, security.
• Experience administering Linux and/or Windows in enterprise settings.
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code, scripting, automation, Git, and CI/CD.
• Cloud security, IAM, encryption, monitoring, backup/recovery.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Government Security Clearance.
• Must reside within 75 miles of Redstone Arsenal or be willing to relocate.

Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, configure, and sustain cloud infrastructure for mission apps and services.
• Engineer virtual networks, subnets, routing, load balancing, firewalls, DNS, and security controls.
• Provision and manage compute, storage, databases, backup, recovery, and related services.
• Implement IaC and automated provisioning using Terraform, CloudFormation, Bicep, Ansible or equivalents.
• Configure cloud identity, IAM, secret management, certificates, and privileged access.
• Build monitoring, logging, alerting, performance and capacity management.
• Automate routine administration, patching, configuration enforcement, compliance checks, lifecycle.
• Support migration of legacy workloads to cloud and hybrid-cloud architectures.
• Diagnose infrastructure, network, performance, availability, and security issues; drive resolution.
• Participate in change management, incident response, DR exercises, and readiness assessments.

Job description

The Cloud Infrastructure Engineer provides hands‑on engineering for secure, scalable cloud infrastructure supporting DoW mission systems. The position focuses on infrastructure services, automation, networking, compute, storage, identity, monitoring, and operational performance.

• Design, deploy, configure, and sustain cloud infrastructure for mission applications and enterprise services.
• Engineer virtual networks, subnets, routing, load balancing, firewalls, private connectivity, DNS, and network security controls.
• Provision and manage cloud compute, storage, databases, backup, recovery, and associated infrastructure services.
• Implement infrastructure-as-code and automated provisioning using Terraform, CloudFormation, Bicep, Ansible, or comparable technologies.
• Configure cloud identity, role-based access control, service identities, secrets, certificates, and privileged-access mechanisms.
• Build monitoring, logging, alerting, performance management, and capacity-management capabilities.
• Automate routine administration, patching, configuration enforcement, compliance checks, and infrastructure lifecycle activities.
• Support migration of legacy workloads from on‑premises infrastructure to cloud and hybrid‑cloud architectures.
• Diagnose infrastructure, network, performance, availability, and security issues and drive problems to resolution.
• Participate in change management, incident response, disaster recovery exercises, technical reviews, and operational readiness assessments.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in relevant technical field (or equivalent experience) and 6+ years of infrastructure engineering experience, with significant hands‑on cloud experience.
• Strong experience with Azure or AWS infrastructure services; experience with both is highly desirable.
• Experience with networking concepts including TCP/IP, routing, VPN/private connectivity, DNS, load balancing, and network security.
• Experience administering Linux and/or Windows systems in enterprise environments.
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code, scripting, automation, Git, and CI/CD practices.
• Working knowledge of cloud security, IAM, encryption, monitoring, vulnerability management, and backup/recovery.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.
• Must reside within a 75-mile radius of Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville AL or be willing to relocate prior to starting date.
• Must have (or be able to have before starting)
  • CompTIA Security+ CE, or other approved 8570 IAT Level II certification.
  • Cloud certification such as Microsoft AZ900 (Azure Fundamentals), Azure Administrator Associate, Azure Security Engineer Associate, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified Developer, CCSP, GCSA or other equivalent Cloud certifications.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Government Security Clearance. An active clearance will be required to start.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in DoW/DoD mission environments.
• Experience with Azure Government, AWS GovCloud, IL5/IL6, or comparable regulated environments.
• Cloud certifications such as AWS Solutions Architect/Engineer or Microsoft Azure Administrator/Engineer.
• Experience with Kubernetes, containers, service mesh, or platform engineering.
• Preferred experience with SPECTRO Cloud, including deployment, configuration, administration, and integration of SPECTRO Cloud capabilities within hybrid and multi-cloud environments.
• Preferred experience architecting, deploying, and integrating SPECTRO Cloud as part of secure hybrid and multi-cloud environments, including platform orchestration, workload management, automation, and integration with government mission systems.
