This is an opportunity to lead a field engineering team, helping customers understand and implement Canonical's open source solutions in public clouds and data centers. The role involves working across cloud offerings, from Ubuntu to virtualization, private cloud, Kubernetes, and sophisticated open source solutions like MLops platforms and data platforms. As Canonical expands into new industries, we design and develop new open source solutions to meet their needs.
We believe that Engineering Managers should be outstanding engineers, capable of troubleshooting technical issues and engaging in technical presales. They should contribute technically but focus more on shaping team direction, focus, and delivery. We also focus on growing management skills and soft skills in engineers interested in management.
Our goal is to make open source easier, reliable, and secure, aiming to provide 'most software to most companies.' We select engineers globally for brilliance and motivation, and our managers help teams achieve more and feel proud of their results.
The team of cloud solutions architects works directly with customers to design private and public cloud solutions, including on-premise options like Openstack, MicroCloud, Ceph, and deployable solutions like Kubernetes, Kubeflow, Spark, PostgreSQL. Managers and team members deploy, test, and hand over solutions, and participate in presales to provide technical advice.
The manager is responsible for line management, career guidance, developing talent, representing the team technically, and collaborating with other teams and customers. Active participation in presales is also expected.
This role is home-based, managing a team in your time zone.
We offer competitive compensation, annual reviews, bonuses, benefits, and a distributed work environment with in-person team sprints. Additional benefits include learning budgets, recognition rewards, leave policies, parental leave, employee assistance, travel opportunities, and travel upgrades.
