Job summary

Vanguard's Observability Engineering team is seeking a skilled engineer to design, build, and operate cloud-native observability platforms across logs, metrics, and traces. You will implement AWS-based solutions including serverless components and container orchestration, and automate infrastructure with IaC to speed up deployments with quality.

You will collaborate with multiple teams to drive self-service observability initiatives and AI-enabled workflow improvements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 3+ years of experience in cloud engineering/platform engineering.
• 3+ years experience with AWS services and cloud-native architectures.
• Hands-on experience with Docker and orchestration (ECS and/or Kubernetes).
• Experience with serverless architectures and modern cloud design patterns.
• Strong programming and automation skills (Python, Bash).
• Experience with observability/monitoring tools (Splunk, Honeycomb, OpenTelemetry, CloudWatch).
• Hands-on experience with IaC and CI/CD practices.
• Strong collaboration and cross-functional teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and support cloud-based observability platforms (logs, metrics, traces).
• Develop cloud-native applications using AWS services including serverless (Lambda).
• Manage containerized workloads with Docker, ECS, Kubernetes.
• Automate infrastructure and operational processes with scripting.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to onboard apps and promote observability best practices.

• Monitor system health and ensure high availability and reliability of cloud platforms.
• Develop Infrastructure-as-Code to enable scalable deployments and CI/CD optimization.
• Evaluate and adopt new tools to improve platform performance and efficiency.
• Provide advanced technical support and ensure reliable cloud production operations.

Join Vanguard's Observability Engineering team and help build the next generation of enterprise observability platforms. You'll design, engineer, and enhance cloud-native solutions across logs, metrics, traces, and event management, enabling teams to deliver reliable and scalable applications. This role combines cloud engineering, software development, automation, and platform engineering to improve developer experience, drive operational excellence, and expand self-service capabilities across the organization. You'll collaborate with application teams, platform partners, and technology vendors to advance our observability ecosystem. As part of our Observability 2.0 strategy, you'll help shape the future of intelligent operations by integrating AI-powered capabilities, MCP-enabled workflows, AIOps automation, and modern observability platforms that accelerate troubleshooting, improve reliability, and reduce operational complexity.

This opportunity follows a hybrid schedule (Required). Onsite Tuesday, Wednesday Thursday in the following locations: Malvern, PA, Charlotte, NC or Dallas, TX.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and support cloud-based observability platforms, including logging, metrics, and distributed tracing systems
• Develop and enhance cloud-native applications using AWS services, including serverless technologies such as Lambda
• Implement and manage containerized workloads using Docker, ECS, and Kubernetes-based orchestration
• Automate infrastructure and operational processes using Python, Bash, or similar scripting languages
• Partner with engineering teams to onboard applications and promote observability best practices
• Manage and optimize SaaS and internally hosted platforms, including vendor coordination and performance tuning
• Monitor system health, troubleshoot issues, and ensure high availability and reliability of cloud platforms
• Develop Infrastructure-as-Code solutions to ensure consistent, scalable deployments and optimize CI/CD pipelines to accelerate development velocity while maintaining quality standards
• Evaluate and recommend new tools and technologies to improve platform performance and efficiency
• Provides advanced level technical support and ensures reliable operation of cloud production. Troubleshoots software systems on multiple cloud computing platforms and system integration into existing cloud computing platforms.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience
• 3+ years of experience in cloud engineering, platform engineering, or related roles
• 3+ years experience with AWS services and cloud-native architectures (required)
• Hands-on experience with Docker and orchestration platforms such as ECS and/or Kubernetes (required)
• Experience with serverless architectures and modern cloud design patterns
• Strong programming and automation skills using Python, Bash, or similar languages
• Experience with observability or monitoring platforms (logs, metrics, tracing) with tools such as Splunk, Honeycomb, OpenTelemetry or CloudWatch preferred
• Hands-on Experience with infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD practices
• Strong collaboration skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams
