Job summary

Black Kite is hiring a Junior DevOps Engineer to manage and optimize databases on Google Cloud Platform. You will work with Cloud SQL, PostgreSQL, and SQL Server to ensure performance, reliability, and scalability.

The role requires 1–2 years of DB engineering experience, a CS/IT degree, and strong SQL skills. You’ll join a fast-paced team that values collaboration, learning, and cloud-first solutions in a US-based environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field with 1–2 years of database engineering experience.
• Basic hands-on experience with PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server.
• Strong ability to write clean, efficient, and optimized SQL queries.
• Solid understanding of query execution plans and indexing strategies.
• Familiarity with joins, subqueries, CTEs, window functions.
• Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or strong foundational knowledge, especially Cloud SQL, compute, networking, and IAM.

Responsibilities

• Write, analyze, and optimize SQL queries for performance and scalability.
• Manage and maintain PostgreSQL and SQL Server databases on GCP (Cloud SQL).
• Perform query tuning and optimization using execution plans.
• Design, implement, and maintain indexes.
• Support HA and disaster recovery setups in cloud environments.
• Perform routine database maintenance tasks (index rebuild/reorg, statistics updates, backups).
• Monitor and troubleshoot database performance issues in GCP environments.
• Collaborate with GCP services and infrastructure (Cloud SQL, Compute Engine, IAM, networking).
• Collaborate with other teams to improve database usage and efficiency.
