Job Title: Cloud Database Architect
Location: Richmond, VA (REMOTE with Restricted Approved Locations)
Employment Type: Full Time Direct Hire
Position Summary:
We are seeking a Cloud Database Architect with deep expertise in SQL, Microsoft Azure, and modern cloud-based data architecture. This role is responsible for supporting, maintaining, reporting, and monitoring production and non-production database environments with an emphasis on automation, scalability, and high availability. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience across cloud platforms, scripting, data integration tools, and cloud-native technologies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Architect, build, and maintain scalable, secure, and high-performing Azure-based data solutions.
- Support and manage production and non-production databases, ensuring high availability, performance tuning, and disaster recovery.
- Develop and manage automation for deployments, backups, monitoring, and recovery processes.
- Implement and monitor cloud cost controls, efficiency strategies, and access management.
- Create and maintain SQL Agent Jobs, SSIS packages, and Azure Data Factory workflows.
- Collaborate with DevOps and engineering teams using GitHub, Artifactory, and automation tools.
- Maintain cloud services, dashboards, analytics, reporting, logging, and user access policies.
- Work with Azure Modern Data Warehouse Services, Managed Instances, Integration Runtime, and Reservations.
- Support and integrate Snowflake where applicable in data pipelines and processing workflows.

- ARM (Azure Resource Manager) templates
- CFT (CloudFormation Templates)
Tools & Platforms:
- Azure (including ADF, Synapse, MI, Functions, Reservations)
- Google Cloud (nice to have)
- GitHub, Artifactory
- Redgate tools (SQL Compare, SQL Monitor, etc.)
- SQL Server
- Linux and Windows environments
Cloud Expertise:
- In-depth understanding of cloud technologies, including:
- Reporting & Analytics
- Monitoring & Logging
- Cloud Functions & Services
- Dashboard creation
- Query optimization
- Access and Identity Management
Required Qualifications:
- 3+ years of developing enterprise data and database solutions.
- 3+ years managing production databases in large-scale environments.
- 2+ years of experience implementing and managing cloud-based data platforms (preferably in Azure).
- Strong knowledge of relational and cloud-native databases.
- Demonstrated experience with Azure SQL, ADF, Integration Runtime, and related services.
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and integration of cloud infrastructure via IaC.
Preferred Certifications:
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Fundamentals
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Scientist Associate
