Purpose of the Position
The Cloud Data Engineer III collaborates with stakeholders and architects across Business and IT to review requirements and design data solutions aligned with organizational strategies. The role involves supporting existing data integration and analytics solutions and developing new data-driven decision-making tools. The work is generally independent and collaborative, contributing to moderately complex projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and align solutions across technology platforms, working closely with architects, data, and infrastructure teams to optimize application code, ensuring data integrity, security, stability, resiliency, sustainability, growth, and performance.
- Conduct design and code reviews to ensure compliance with standards.
- Participate in knowledge sharing and resolve technical issues.
- Produce high-quality, robust, efficient, testable, and maintainable code.
- Deliver operational automation and tooling to reduce manual tasks.
- Create and maintain systems for loading and transforming large data sets from various sources.
- Translate business goals into appropriate technical cloud solutions.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for technologies like MS-SQL Server, Redshift, AWS Glue, DMS, Step Functions, Lambda, Iceberg tables, Athena, and AWS Data Pipelines.
- Design cloud-based solutions for Data, Infrastructure, and Applications.
- Collaborate with Software Engineering teams and Product Owners to include new data sources and deploy schema changes.
- Work with Data Scientists and Business Intelligence teams to create insights and reports.
- Perform daily monitoring, administration, repair, and maintenance of databases.
- Automate tasks using Bash or PowerShell scripting.
- Proficiency with Boto3 library for AWS interactions.
- Participate in on-call support for production systems during off-hours.
- Attend in-person meetings and travel as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Engineering from an accredited university.
- 4+ years of related experience, including expertise in Big Data, data streaming, data lakes, cloud platforms, ETL, Data Modeling, Data Architecture, Spark, PySpark, EMR, Python scripting, data warehouse design, AWS services, and work authorization without future visa sponsorship requirements.
Preferred:
- AWS certifications (Solutions Architect or Data Engineer).
- Experience with large data warehouses/lakes, low-latency data pipelines, AWS microservices, and end-to-end AWS solutions architecture.
Skills and Abilities
- Expert SQL skills, data handling, lineage, quality, and discoverability.
- Knowledge of distributed systems, data architecture, batch and stream processing, and optimization.
- Strong problem-solving, prioritization, communication, mentorship, and adaptability skills.
- Ability to work in fast-paced, confidential environments with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
