Job summary

Cleveland Clinic’s Main Campus is hiring for a Clinical Technician to join the M81 Surgical Short Stay Unit. You will work nights, 11:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m., with no weekend shifts, supporting patient care across diverse surgical and medical specialties.

You will perform vital sign monitoring, assist with personal care, phlebotomy, ECGs and catheter care under supervision, contributing to efficient discharges and high-quality care.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• BLS certification prior to hire.
• One year of recent full-time patient care experience, with substitutions allowed.
• Nursing students with at least one clinical rotation may substitute.
• Military medical experience considered.
• Proficiency in basic math and reading at an 8th-grade level.

Responsibilities

• Provide or assist with patient care under RN supervision (vital signs, assistance with personal care, etc.).
• Perform point-of-care testing, dressing changes, transfers and transport.
• Apply external monitoring devices and perform phlebotomy and 12-lead ECGs.

Education

High School Diploma or GED

BLS Certification

1 year patient care experience

Nursing students clinical rotation substitution

Military medical experience (HM/68W/4N0X1)

Proficiency in math & reading (8th grade level)

Cleveland Clinic’s M81 Surgical Short Stay Unit cares for patients in need of extended recovery or observation following surgeries or procedures. This unit captures a wide variety of specialties, including endocrinology, urology, radiology, general surgery, plastics, colorectal, neurology, orthopedic, and ophthalmology. M81 caregivers pride themselves on delivering efficient and effective workflow processes to ensure patient discharges are expedited and care is of the highest quality. Because of the variety and complexity of patients cared for, M81 offers caregivers an array of growth and learning opportunities. This unit also has an active unit‑based Shared Governance and high caregiver engagement. As Clinical Technician, you will play a direct role in our mission to continuously provide patients with the best healthcare experience possible.

Shift Schedule

Works nights 11:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m., no weekends.

Responsibilities

• Provide or assist with patient care under the supervision of an RN, such as taking vital signs and weight, assisting patients with personal care, point‑of‑care testing, dressing changes, patient transfers/transport, applying external monitoring devices, phlebotomy, 12‑lead ECGs and removing urinary Foley catheters.
• Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to an RN.
• Assist with keeping patients’ rooms clean and orderly.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• BASIC LIFE SUPPORT (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross before hire.
• One year of recent, full‑time patient care experience; additional education or training may substitute for some or all of the stated experience.
• Nursing students who have completed at least one clinical rotation as part of an accredited nursing school program may substitute for the required experience.
• Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) considered.
• Demonstrates proficiency in applied mathematics and reading comprehension at an 8th‑grade level.

Physical Requirements

• Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye‑hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking.
• Medium work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force rarely, and/or 0 to 50 pounds of force occasionally to move objects.
• Physical demand requirements exceed those for medium work.

Personal Protective Equipment

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $19.25.
Maximum hourly: $25.95.
