The Ophthalmic Technician participates in patient care within a clinical setting. Responsibilities include greeting patients, explaining procedures, escorting them to exam rooms, and performing diagnostic tests such as visual acuity, tonometry, and lensometry. Ensures accurate documentation and maintains a sterile environment.

What you will be doing

1. Interact with patients to gather information and enter data into electronic medical records (EMR);
2. Communicate effectively with patients about their visit and any delays or changes;
3. Document patient complaints, medical history, and clinical findings accurately;
4. Perform eye tests and measurements;
5. Administer eye drops for anesthesia, dilation, or medication;
6. Assist with minor surgeries, intraocular injections, and laser treatments, including patient preparation;
7. Educate patients on medication use and pre/post-operative care;
8. Support physicians by scribing during consultations;
9. Maintain patient confidentiality and secure medical records in compliance with HIPAA;
10. Resolve patient concerns professionally and efficiently;
11. Demonstrate knowledge of eye anatomy, diseases, symptoms, and medications;
12. Stay updated on new technologies and medications and address patient questions;
13. Assist team members and participate in special projects as needed.

Minimum requirements

• High school diploma or GED;
• Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a vehicle;
• Ability to stand or sit for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR);
• Knowledge of medical terminology;
• Entry level (0-3 years of experience).
