The Ophthalmic Technician participates in patient care within a clinical setting. Responsibilities include greeting patients, explaining procedures, escorting them to exam rooms, and performing diagnostic tests such as visual acuity, tonometry, and lensometry. Ensures accurate documentation and maintains a sterile environment.
What you will be doing
- Interact with patients to gather information and enter data into electronic medical records (EMR);
- Communicate effectively with patients about their visit and any delays or changes;
- Document patient complaints, medical history, and clinical findings accurately;
- Perform eye tests and measurements;
- Administer eye drops for anesthesia, dilation, or medication;
- Assist with minor surgeries, intraocular injections, and laser treatments, including patient preparation;
- Educate patients on medication use and pre/post-operative care;
- Support physicians by scribing during consultations;
- Maintain patient confidentiality and secure medical records in compliance with HIPAA;
- Resolve patient concerns professionally and efficiently;
- Demonstrate knowledge of eye anatomy, diseases, symptoms, and medications;
- Stay updated on new technologies and medications and address patient questions;
- Assist team members and participate in special projects as needed.
Minimum requirements
- High school diploma or GED;
- Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a vehicle;
- Ability to stand or sit for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR);
- Knowledge of medical terminology;
- Entry level (0-3 years of experience).
