Job Description
The Ophthalmic Technician participates in patient care within a clinical setting. Responsibilities include greeting patients, explaining procedures, escorting them to exam rooms, and performing diagnostic tests such as visual acuity, tonometry, and lensometry. The technician ensures accurate documentation, maintains the clinic environment, and assists with minor surgeries and treatments.
Key Responsibilities
- Interact with patients to gather information and enter data into electronic medical records (EMR);
- Communicate with patients regarding their visit, delays, or changes;
- Document patient complaints, medical history, and clinical notes accurately;
- Conduct eye tests and measure eye functions;
- Administer eye drops and assist with procedures, including surgeries and laser treatments;
- Educate patients on medication use and pre/post-operative care;
- Maintain patient confidentiality and medical records in compliance with HIPAA;
- Problem-solve and de-escalate dissatisfied patients respectfully;
- Demonstrate basic knowledge of eye anatomy, diseases, and medications;
- Stay current with technological and medical advancements;
- Support team members and participate in special projects as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED;
- Valid driver’s license and ability to drive;
- Ability to stand or sit for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR);
- Knowledge of medical terminology;
- Entry-level experience (0-3 years).
