Job summary

Yale New Haven Health in New Haven, CT seeks a patient care assistant to support daily patient activities, collect vitals, and perform non-sterile treatments. The role includes phlebotomy where assigned and strong focus on PFCC with patients and families.

The position requires a CNA or nursing program enrollment, with prior patient care experience preferred. Flexibility with shifts and ongoing education participation are expected.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent. Must be a CNA or complete certification prior to completion of orientation or has completed one clinical nursing school rotation and currently enrolled in a nursing program.
• One (1) year patient care experience (EKG, Phlebotomy, Nurse Aide, Nurse Technician) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conducts daily patient care activities including activities of daily living and comfort measures.
• Obtains weights, temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure measurements, including orthostatic parameters as appropriate.
• Applies cold compresses and other non-sterile treatments as assigned.
• Performs phlebotomy where applicable.
• Uses effective interpersonal skills in all interactions and shows respect for others.
• Maintains active involvement in all educational activities related to role and attends mandatory inservices.
• Is flexible with time as assignment changes to meet unit needs.

Under the direct supervision of the RN or Patient Care Manager, performs duties of daily patient care which include bath and assistance with activities of daily living, data collection on weight, temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure measurements. Performs non-sterile treatments, phlebotomy (depending upon area of assignment) and EKG's.
