Position Summary

The Supervisor of the nursing unit is responsible for the day-to-day operations, direct supervision of the RN staff, and assists the Director and/or Manager with the operational management of the nursing unit. The Supervisor coordinates patient care during hospitalization to optimize resource utilization and patient outcomes. The Supervisor serves as a clinical role model for patient care and supports staff development. They demonstrate commitment to the unit and organization, applying strong communication skills to achieve service goals and foster a positive work environment.

Essential Job Functions and Core Responsibilities

• Oversee performance improvement activities through orientation, education, quality control, and planning.
• Report to the Director on overall work performance.
• Assist with operations, including budget, regulatory compliance, and resource utilization.
• Demonstrate clinical expertise and act as a resource for staff.
• Maintain excellent communication and customer service standards.
• Promote teamwork and positive interdepartmental relationships.
• Ensure clinical aspects of patient care (staffing, workflow, resources) are met.
• Identify and support staff development needs.
• Manage human resources effectively, including interviewing, hiring, counseling, evaluating, and assisting with terminations to reduce vacancies and turnover.
• Model professional customer service and collaborative practice.
• Support a safe, blame-free, and healing environment for all.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing required; Baccalaureate degree preferred.

Work Experience: 2-3 years of clinical experience required; management experience preferred.

Licenses and Certifications: Current RN license in California required; BLS and ACLS certifications required; PALS preferred; Management of Assaultive Behavior certification to be obtained within 6 months of hire.
