Job Summary:

Baptist Health Pharmacy services are committed to ensuring the optimal, safe, and effective use of medications for all patients through advanced technology and innovative application of skilled personnel that will improve clinical outcomes and community health in a value-based environment.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

The following summarizes the major functions of this role:

1. Interprets, profiles, and dispenses medication orders.
2. Supervises production of compounded products.
3. Maintains knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations regarding pharmacy practice, as well as Joint Commission standards.
4. Supervises department or assigned work area operations in the absence of the Manager or Director, including scheduling staff coverage when personnel call in sick, and reassigning support personnel as needed.
5. Initiates, documents, and participates in activities that promote positive patient outcomes, such as identifying medication process issues, participating in Code Blue activities, conducting Drug Utilization Evaluations, reporting adverse drug events, and collaborating with inter-professional teams on order sets, inventory, and policies.
6. Assists in orientation and training of pharmacists, technicians, students, and residents, including performing competencies for new hires and annually as required.
7. Handles patient and staff complaints effectively.
8. Monitors and coordinates workflow of medication preparation and delivery to ensure timely service, working with inter-professional staff to streamline processes for optimal pharmaceutical care.

Minimum Education, Training, and Experience Required:

• Graduate of an accredited College of Pharmacy with at least a BS in Pharmacy; PharmD preferred.
• Kentucky Pharmacist Registration or eligibility.
• Hospital experience and completion of an ASHP-accredited Pharmacy Residency are preferred.
• Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification is preferred.
