Job Summary:
The CS provides direct patient care, including the development, assessment, and implementation of treatment programs. The CS acts as a clinical resource to staff and students. The CS I arranges, plans, and delivers educational opportunities for internal and external customers locally and may participate regionally. The CS I reports directly to the Director, the Assistant Director, and/or the Clinical Supervisor.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Evaluates patients and interprets examination findings to determine the nature and extent of dysfunction related to medical problems, birth defects, or health conditions, aiming to restore movement and functional activities. Performs clinical testing on muscle strength, reflexes, sensation, coordination, range of motion, and sensory motor skills, along with analysis and treatment of postural, gait, and ADL disorders.
- Establishes treatment goals and plans interventions based on patient age, medical history, and dysfunction.
- Administers or prescribes modalities and other physical agents.
- Develops and administers exercise programs and patient care plans.
- Demonstrates professional competence and clinical reasoning throughout all phases of physical therapy.
- Implements safety precautions tailored to patient age, condition, and treatment type.
- Regularly reassesses clinical signs to evaluate treatment effectiveness and modify plans as needed.
- Delivers treatment directly to patients and may delegate parts of the treatment plan to support staff.
- Coordinates treatment plans and participates in discharge planning with healthcare team members.
- Participates in patient care rounds and case management conferences as appropriate.
- Provides education and advice to patients and families.
- Discharges patients when therapy is no longer necessary or appropriate.
- Upholds Kaiser Permanente policies, responsibilities, and applicable laws.
- Maintains cleanliness of work areas and reports equipment issues per policies.
- Documents services accurately and timely per legal and policy standards.
- Completes mandatory compliance requirements in partnership with management.
- May be trained to serve diverse patient populations as needed.
- Involved in clinical competency development for PT Assistants and PT Aides.
- Supervises PT assistants and aides when delegating patient and non-patient tasks.
- Provides excellent customer service and upholds principles of responsibility.
- Contributes to staff performance evaluations and departmental improvement initiatives.
- Supports regional and local organizational goals and policy development.
- Participates in staff development, mentoring, and program development to enhance patient care.
- Oversees or participates in in-service training and develops clinical competencies.
- Engages in training activities such as ergonomics, physician training, and diversity initiatives as needed.
- May contribute to QA and Utilization Management processes.
