Job summary

Boston Children’s Hospital is seeking a social worker for the Social Work Emergency Psychiatry Services. Work four 10-hour days: two in Emergency Psychiatry and two in the Bridge Clinic within Outpatient Psychiatry.

The role focuses on rapid interim psychiatric care and case management while awaiting longer-term treatment in the community. The position requires an MSW and MA LICSW/LCSW licensure, with prior medical social work experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Social Work required.
• Massachusetts LCSW or LICSW is required.
• Spanish language skills are a plus.
• Experience in medical social work preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide clinical social work services to patients and families with medical and environmental challenges.
• Conduct biopsychosocial assessments and trauma-informed interventions.
• Perform psychosocial and risk assessments, develop treatment plans.
• Coordinate discharge planning and outpatient service follow-up with the care team.
• Provide short term therapy in ED, inpatient psychiatry, Bridge Clinic, or primary care settings.

Position/Department Summary

Boston Children’s Hospital’s acclaimed Social Work Emergency Psychiatry Services team responds to social needs and issues in the Emergency Department and throughout inpatient services. The Psychiatry Bridge Program offers patients and their families prompt interim psychiatric care and case management services while waiting for longer term treatment in the community. We are currently seeking a social worker to work four 10 hour days - two 10 hour days in the Emergency Psychiatry Service, and two 10 hour days in the Bridge Clinic in the Outpatient Psychiatry Service.

Key Responsibilities

• Providing clinical social work services to assist patients and families with personal, family, medical and environmental difficulties.
• performing biopsychosocial assessments, as well as implementing trauma-informed, strengths-based interventions. We also provide management and advocacy for both patients and families.
• Performing psychosocial and risk assessments, assigning diagnoses, and developing and implementing interventions and treatment plans.
• Participating in planning and implementation of discharge and outpatient service plans and collaborating with health care team and community agencies to plan, implement, and follow up on treatment and provision of needed services.
• Providing short term therapy for patients referred from the ED, inpatient psychiatry unit, Bridge Clinic, or primary care practice needing additional stabilization before returning to outpatient treatment.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

• A master’s degree in social work

Experience

• Previous medical social work experience ideal
• Strong clinical skills and experience with various therapeutic modalities.
• Spanish language skills are a plus.

Licensure

• Massachusetts LCSW or LICSW is required
