Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Clinical Research Registered Nurse with oncology expertise to coordinate and support oncology and hematology trials within a leading academic cancer research environment.

You will guide patients through complex treatment protocols, obtain informed consent, monitor adverse events, and collaborate with physicians and research teams to advance innovative cancer therapies.

Qualifications

  • Active RN license in PA is required and oncology nursing experience is essential.
  • Minimum 5+ years of RN experience with strong clinical research exposure.
  • 2–3 years in clinical research, including trial coordination and enrollment.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate oncology/hematology trials, ensuring protocol compliance and GCP.
  • Pre-screen patients, document eligibility and enroll participants.
  • Obtain informed consent per IRB requirements.
  • Provide direct RN patient care within research context and monitor status.
  • Collaborate with physicians, coordinators, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Monitor adverse events using CTCAE and document promptly.
  • Maintain accurate research records and source documents.
  • Educate patients and families about procedures, risks, and participation.
  • Support diverse trials across genitourinary and other malignancies.
  • Contribute to quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.

Job Title: Clinical Research Registered Nurse – Oncology
Job Description

This Clinical Research Registered Nurse role focuses on supporting oncology and hematology clinical trials within a leading academic cancer research environment. You will use your oncology nursing expertise and clinical research experience to coordinate studies, guide patients through complex treatment protocols, and collaborate closely with physicians and research teams. The position plays a key role in advancing innovative cancer therapies, improving patient outcomes, and contributing to high-profile, well-funded research initiatives.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and support oncology and hematology clinical research studies, ensuring adherence to protocol, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct chart reviews and pre-screen patients to assess eligibility for participation in clinical trials.
  • Manage patient enrollment into studies, including scheduling, tracking, and documentation of all study-related activities.
  • Obtain and document informed consent from patients in accordance with ethical standards and institutional review board (IRB) requirements.
  • Provide direct patient care as a Registered Nurse within the context of clinical research, including monitoring clinical status and supporting treatment plans.
  • Collaborate closely and comfortably with physicians, research coordinators, and multidisciplinary team members to ensure smooth study operations.
  • Monitor and report adverse events related to cancer medications using CTCAE criteria, ensuring timely and accurate documentation.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed research records, including source documents, case report forms, and electronic data capture systems as required.
  • Educate patients and families about study procedures, potential risks and benefits, and ongoing participation requirements.
  • Support the conduct of innovative clinical trials across a range of genitourinary and other malignancies, contributing to efforts to improve diagnosis and treatment.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement and compliance activities related to clinical research processes and patient safety.
  • Contribute to the mission of reducing the burden of cancer by helping translate scientific discoveries into new models of prevention and treatment.
Essential Skills
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
  • 5+ years of experience as a Registered Nurse.
  • Minimum of two to three years of clinical research experience.
  • Oncology nursing experience, with strong knowledge of cancer care and treatment protocols.
  • Comfort and confidence interacting and collaborating with physicians.
  • Experience working with institutional review boards (IRB) and informed consent processes.
  • Proficiency in patient enrollment and coordination of clinical trial activities.
  • Ability to perform chart review and pre-screening of patients for clinical trial eligibility.
  • Knowledge and application of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines.
  • Experience with cancer medications and adverse event reporting using CTCAE.
  • Strong patient advocacy and communication skills in a research setting.
  • Ability to manage multiple studies and patient cases with attention to detail and accuracy.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Hematology experience preferred, particularly in the care of patients with hematologic malignancies.
  • Background or familiarity with clinical research coordination or study coordination in oncology.
  • Experience working on innovative clinical trials, including Phase I–IV studies, is an advantage.
  • Understanding of translational research concepts and the integration of laboratory findings into clinical practice.
  • Ability to work effectively within large, multidisciplinary academic research teams.
  • Strong organizational, documentation, and time-management skills.
  • Commitment to the mission of reducing cancer incidence, mortality, and morbidity through research and patient care.

This role is based within a prestigious academic cancer research center that offers a vibrant, well-funded research environment and state-of-the-art equipment. The cancer center supports nearly 200 active clinical trials and holds substantial grant funding from major national organizations, reflecting the high level of research activity. You will work on high-profile studies with large, well-known sponsors, focusing on areas of excellence such as translational research, breast cancer, melanoma, hematologic malignancies and bone marrow transplantation, tobacco-related research, developmental therapeutics, and immunobiology. The environment emphasizes collaboration among physicians, scientists, and research staff to pioneer scientific discoveries and translate them into new models of cancer prevention and treatment. The culture is mission-driven, centered on reducing the burden of cancer while training future cancer researchers and continually improving the ability to prevent, diagnose, and treat cancer. Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Philadelphia, PA.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $45.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
