Job Title: Clinical Research Coordinator


Job Description

The Clinical Research Coordinator plays a key role in supporting a high-volume pulmonary research program by managing patient-facing activities and contributing to a wide range of clinical trials and disease registries. This position focuses on recruiting, screening, and consenting participants while collaborating closely with a multidisciplinary team to ensure studies run smoothly and data are collected accurately. Coordinators in this environment are trained to handle diverse aspects of research operations, offering the opportunity to develop broad skills across regulatory, budgetary, and clinical functions.


Responsibilities


  • Recruit, pre-screen, and enroll patients into clinical research studies within pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine programs.

  • Conduct patient screening activities, including chart review and assessment of eligibility criteria for multiple concurrent studies.

  • Obtain informed consent from study participants in accordance with protocol requirements and ethical guidelines.

  • Perform clinical procedures such as vital signs and EKGs, ensuring accurate measurement and documentation.

  • Support blood draw procedures under appropriate supervision when trained, contributing to specimen collection for research protocols.

  • Utilize medical terminology and clinical research knowledge to communicate effectively with patients and research staff.

  • Accurately enter and maintain study data in electronic systems, ensuring completeness, timeliness, and data integrity.

  • Collaborate with a large team of clinical research coordinators to manage a portfolio of 50+ active studies across multiple pulmonary subspecialty groups.

  • Assist with general clinical trial operations, including scheduling study visits, preparing study materials, and coordinating logistics.

  • Adapt to a high-volume research environment by learning study protocols independently and taking initiative to solve problems.

  • Contribute to studies funded by industry sponsors, federal grants, and departmental or registry programs by following specific protocol requirements.

  • Communicate clearly with investigators, clinicians, and other research staff to facilitate smooth study execution and patient flow.

  • Maintain compliance with institutional, departmental, and regulatory standards in all aspects of study conduct.

  • Demonstrate flexibility in supporting different pulmonary research groups, including Pulmonary Hypertension, Interstitial Lung Disease, Cystic Fibrosis/Bronchiectasis, COPD/Asthma, ICU, and disease registries.


Essential Skills


  • Minimum of 1 year of clinical research experience, including exposure to clinical trials and study operations.

  • Hands‑on experience with chart review and pre‑screening patients for eligibility.

  • Proficiency in data entry with strong attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Working knowledge of medical terminology relevant to clinical research and pulmonary care.

  • Experience performing vital signs and EKGs in a clinical or research setting.

  • Ability to learn and navigate technology systems used for research data and study management.

  • Demonstrated learning mindset and capacity to work independently in a high‑volume study environment.

  • Strong initiative and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and studies simultaneously.


Additional Skills & Qualifications


  • Phlebotomy experience is highly beneficial, including performing blood draws; formal phlebotomy certification is not required if trained and supervised.

  • Familiarity with research terminology and clinical trial processes.

  • Comfort working with industry‑sponsored studies, federally funded trials, and disease registries.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a large team of clinical research coordinators.

  • Strong communication skills for interacting with patients, families, and multidisciplinary clinical and research staff.

  • High level of intelligence, curiosity, and motivation to continuously learn new protocols and procedures.

  • Technological proficiency, including the ability to quickly learn new software platforms and electronic data capture systems.


Work Environment

This role is based within pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine research programs that collectively oversee approximately 6090 active studies. The pulmonary department includes five main groups Pulmonary Hypertension, Interstitial Lung Disease, Cystic Fibrosis/Bronchiectasis, COPD/Asthma, and ICU plus multiple disease registries. The team manages more than 50 active studies, with a research staff of around 2021 clinical research coordinators. Approximately 80% of studies are industry‑sponsored, while ICU studies are more evenly split with federal grants, and registries are funded at the departmental or federal level. The environment is fast‑paced, highly collaborative, and technology‑driven, offering exposure to a broad range of complex clinical trials and patient populations. Coordinators work closely with clinicians and investigators in clinical areas and office settings, using electronic systems for data entry and study management, and performing standard clinical procedures such as vital signs, EKGs, and supervised blood draws as part of research visits.

This is a Contract position based out of Sacramento, CA.


Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $36.00/hr.


Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job‑related factors.
