Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to join the clinical team. The role focuses on obtaining complete medication histories for patients across the hospital and emergency department, ensuring accurate documentation and timely transitions of care.

You will work with the care team, verify allergies, and maintain high safety standards. Responsibilities include preparing sterile compounds and IV admixtures, handling controlled substances, and supporting inventory and dispensing

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Pharmacy Technician License (IDFPR) is required.
• Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification through PTCB or NHA required for all licensed after 2008 (within 6 months of hire or sooner if required by IL pharmacy practice act).

Responsibilities

• Obtain accurate medication histories from patients in hospital and ED.
• Document medication histories clearly in the EHR.
• Identify and clarify allergies and reconcile medication lists.
• Communicate effectively with care team and patients or their representatives.
• Assist in ordering, receiving, and stocking pharmaceuticals and supplies.
• Prepare sterile compounds and IV admixtures, including hazardous medications.
• Deliver medications to units and manage inventory of dispensing cabinets.
