ORLANDO HEALTH ARNOLD PALMER HOSPITAL FOR CHILDREN is seeking a Pediatric Emergency Medicine Clinical Pharmacy Specialist to optimize medication use in the pediatric ED and support trauma and emergency response teams. • Provide direct pharmaceutical care during pediatric emergencies, resuscitations, traumas, codes, and procedural sedations in the ED.
• Serve as medication expert at the bedside for rapid, accurate, safe selection, preparation, and administration.
• Anticipate and manage medication needs for critically ill pediatric patients, including weight-based dosing.
• Support care of complex pediatric emergencies, including sepsis, status epilepticus, polytrauma, and cardiovascular events.
• Lead medication-use protocols and safety initiatives specific to pediatric emergency care.

The Pediatric Emergency Medicine Clinical Pharmacy Specialist is an advanced practice pharmacist responsible for optimizing medication use and improving patient outcomes in the pediatric emergency department (ED). This position provides direct patient care, supports trauma and emergency response teams, ensures medication safety in high-stress environments, and advances the mission of the hospital by integrating evidence-based pharmacotherapy into emergency and trauma care.

This position will support both Arnold Palmer Hospital and Winnie Palmer Hospital.

Shift: Full Time - Second Shift

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Practice

• Provide direct pharmaceutical care during pediatric emergencies, resuscitations, traumas, codes, and procedural sedations, focused on care in the emergency department.

• Serve as the medication expert at the bedside to support rapid, accurate, and safe medication selection, preparation, and administration in the ED.

• Anticipate and manage medication needs for critically ill or injured patients, including weight-based dosing and age-specific considerations.

• Support care of patients with complex medical and surgical emergencies, including sepsis, status epilepticus, polytrauma, toxic ingestions, and cardiovascular collapse.

• Optimize pharmacotherapy in special populations (e.g., neonates, technology-dependent children, medically complex patients).

• Participate in caring for patients with the multidisciplinary pediatric emergency medicine team to provide real-time drug information, therapeutic recommendations, and antimicrobial stewardship guidance.

Medication Safety & Systems Support

• Develop and implement medication-use protocols, order sets, and clinical decision support tools specific to pediatric emergency care.

• Support trauma bay and ED medication management, including crash cart and code tray oversight, inventory optimization, and controlled substance compliance.

• Identify and prevent medication errors in a high-risk, fast-paced environment through proactive clinical involvement.

• Lead and participate in root cause analyses and performance improvement initiatives related to medication safety and emergency care.

Qualifications

Qualifications

• Pharmacy degree (Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy) is required.

• Must meet one (1) of the following:

• Two (2) years completion of an ASHP-accredited residency or Fellowship in specialty area consistent with practice needs of the institution.

• One (1) year completion of an ASHP-accredited residency plus specialty practice experience (1+ years) consistent with the practice needs of the institution.

• Five (5) years of clinical pharmacy experience consistent with the practice needs of the institution.

• Must be licensed as a pharmacist by the Florida Board of Pharmacy or obtain license within 4 months of hire.
