Job summary

Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children seeks a Pediatric Infectious Diseases Clinical Pharmacy Specialist to optimize antimicrobial therapy for neonatal, pediatric, and OB/GYN patients at Arnold Palmer and Winnie Palmer campuses.

The role collaborates with ID physicians and multidisciplinary teams to advance stewardship, education, and research across a large academic center.

Qualifications

• Pharmacy degree (B.S. in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy) is required.
• Two (2) years completion of an ASHP-accredited residency or Fellowship in specialty area or one (1) year plus experience; or five (5) years of clinical pharmacy experience.
• Must be licensed as a pharmacist by the Florida Board of Pharmacy or obtain license within 4 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Perform antimicrobial stewardship activities including review of infections and antimicrobial utilization.
• Participate in Infectious Diseases Consult Service rounds with ID attendings and provide evidence-based recommendations.
• Support development and maintenance of antimicrobial stewardship protocols and clinical pathways.
• Analyze antimicrobial utilization and resistance data; contribute to antibiograms.
• Collaborate with Infection Prevention, Microbiology, Sepsis, Quality, and Clinical Operations teams on system-wide initiatives.
• Precept pharmacy residents and students in infectious diseases and stewardship learning experiences.
• Participate in clinical research and scholarly activities related to infectious diseases and stewardship.
• Provide education to pharmacists, physicians, nurses, residents, and students.

The Pediatric Infectious Diseases Clinical Pharmacy Specialist will collaborate with Infectious Diseases physicians and multidisciplinary teams to optimize antimicrobial therapy for complex neonatal, pediatric, and OB/GYN hospitalized patients at both Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children and Orlando Health Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women and Babies.

This position will support both Arnold Palmer Hospital and Winnie Palmer Hospital

Shift: Full Time - First Shift

Responsibilities

• Perform prospective audit and feedback activities including review of bloodstream infections, antimicrobial stewardship worklists, restricted antimicrobial utilization, broad-spectrum antibiotic therapy, and other targeted stewardship initiatives.
• Participate in Infectious Diseases Consult Service rounds with ID attendings and provide evidence-based recommendations regarding antimicrobial initiation, optimization, de-escalation, duration of therapy, and diagnostic stewardship.
• Support development, implementation, and maintenance of antimicrobial stewardship initiatives, protocols, clinical pathways, order sets, guidelines, and quality improvement projects.
• Analyze antimicrobial utilization and resistance data, participate in the development of annual antibiograms, and identify opportunities to improve clinical outcomes and antimicrobial utilization.
• Collaborate with Infection Prevention, Microbiology, Sepsis, Quality, and Clinical Operations teams on system-wide initiatives focused on improving patient outcomes and reducing antimicrobial resistance.
• Participate in multidisciplinary and corporate committees, including antimicrobial stewardship, medication-use, infection prevention, microbiology, sepsis, and quality-improvement initiatives.
• Serve as a mentor and infectious diseases resource for a growing decentralized clinical pharmacy staff.
• Precept pharmacy residents and students in infectious diseases and antimicrobial stewardship learning experiences.
• Participate in clinical research, medication-use evaluations, and scholarly activities related to infectious diseases and antimicrobial stewardship.
• Provide education to pharmacists, physicians, nurses, residents, fellows, and students.
• Dedicated involvement in a system-wide antimicrobial stewardship program
• Active engagement in residency education, research, scholarship, and publication opportunities within a large academic center.

• Pharmacy degree (Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy) is required.
• Must meet one (1) of the following:
• Two (2) years completion of an ASHP-accredited residency or Fellowship in specialty area consistent with practice needs of the institution.
• One (1) year completion of an ASHP-accredited residency plus specialty practice experience (1+ years) consistent with the practice needs of the institution.
• Five (5) years of clinical pharmacy experience consistent with the practice needs of the institution.
• Must be licensed as a pharmacist by the Florida Board of Pharmacy or obtain license within 4 months of hire.
