Job summary

Akron Children’s Hospital is seeking a Pharmacy Clinical Specialist to manage drug distribution and clinical pharmacotherapy in the assigned patient care area. You will evaluate orders, provide drug information, and support physicians, nurses, and staff.

Responsibilities include pharmacotherapy management, rounding, protocol development, adverse drug reaction management, cost containment, education, and training of residents and students. Requires active Ohio license and PGY1/PGY2 preferred.

Qualifications

• Doctor of Pharmacy Degree required or BS pharmacy with pediatric experience.
• Current Ohio State Board of Pharmacy license required.
• Post Graduate Year 1 (PGY1) residency required; PGY2 preferred.
• Board Certification in area of expertise preferred.
• 3 years of relevant experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs complex clinical pharmacy services including drug therapy management and pharmacokinetics.
• Assists nurses and prescribers with medication use challenges and cost containment.
• Demonstrates knowledge of drug distribution and control functions in pharmacy operations.
• Evaluates drug therapy orders for appropriateness.
• Monitors effects of drug therapy and documents interventions in EMR.
• Provides drug education and counsels patients; precepts residents/students.
• Prepares mandatory education presentations to staff pharmacists.
• Participates in drug use evaluation programs and Pharmacy & Therapeutics committee.
