Inova Heart and Vascular Retail Pharmacy is seeking a dedicated Clinical Pharmacist to join the team on a PRN basis across various shifts. Flexible availability is essential. Inova is a leading nonprofit health system known for safety, quality, and patient experience in Northern Virginia.

The role involves clinical medication interpretation, formulary participation, and supervision of staff. VA licensure and relevant certifications within 90 days are required, with hospital pharmacist experience

Qualifications

• PharmD or Bachelor degree in Pharmacy.
• Licensed Pharmacist in VA.
• BLS, ACLS for Critical Care and Emergency Medicine, and PALS within 90 days of hire.
• One year hospital Pharmacist experience (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Interprets, prepares, and verifies medication orders as appropriate.
• Provides clinical consultation and cost-effective alternatives.
• Issues controlled substances in compliance according to the DEA and VA Board of Pharmacy requirements.
• Participates in the medication formulary review and approval process.
• Monitors drug therapies for interactions, allergies, and appropriateness.
• Reports adverse drug reactions promptly and accurately.
• Minimizes non-formulary procurement and supports substitutions.
• Supervises pharmacy support staff.
• Participates in continuous quality improvement.
• Precepting learners as appropriate.

Clinical Pharmacist Responsibilities:

• Interprets, prepares, and verifies medication orders as appropriate.
• Provides clinical consultation and cost-effective alternatives.
• Issues controlled substances in compliance according to the DEA and VA Board of Pharmacy requirements.
• Participates in the medication formulary review and approval process.
• Monitors drug therapies for interactions, allergies, and appropriateness.
• Reports adverse drug reactions promptly and accurately.

• Supervises pharmacy support staff.
• Participates in continuous quality improvement.
• May perform additional duties as assigned, including, but not limited to:
  • Participating in decentralized rounding with clinical teams.
  • Responding to emergent bedside alerts and codes (adult and pediatric as designated).
  • Precepting learners as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Education: Doctorate of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor degree in Pharmacy.
• Licensure: Licensed Pharmacist in the state of VA.
• Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) for Critical Care and Emergency Medicine, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 90 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience: One (1) year hospital Pharmacist experience.
