Job summary

Inova Loudoun Hospital Retail Pharmacy seeks a dedicated Clinical Pharmacist to join the team on a PRN basis with flexible shifts. The role requires licensed VA pharmacists and supports clinical rounds, formulary reviews, and quality improvements.

Responsibilities include interpreting orders, providing cost-effective therapy alternatives, supervising staff, and ensuring compliance with DEA and VA Board of Pharmacy guidelines. Inova offers benefits and a strong healthcare work culture.

Qualifications

• Education: PharmD or Bachelor degree in Pharmacy.
• Licensure: Licensed Pharmacist in VA.
• BLS/ACLS/PALS certifications within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Interprets, prepares, and verifies medication orders.
• Provides clinical consultation and cost-effective alternatives.
• Issues controlled substances per DEA and VA Board of Pharmacy requirements.
• Participates in formulary review and approval.
• Monitors drug therapies for interactions/allergies/appropriateness.
• Reports adverse drug reactions promptly.
• Minimizes non-formulary procurement and supports substitutions.
• Supervises pharmacy support staff.
• Participates in continuous quality improvement.
• Decentralized rounding with clinical teams and responding to emergent bedside alerts.

Clinical Pharmacist Job Responsibilities:

• Interprets, prepares, and verifies medication orders as appropriate.


• Provides clinical consultation and cost-effective alternatives.


• Issues controlled substances in compliance according to the DEA and VA Board of Pharmacy requirements.


• Participates in the medication formulary review and approval process.


• Monitors drug therapies for interactions, allergies, and appropriateness.


• Reports adverse drug reactions promptly and accurately.


• Minimizes non-formulary procurement and supports substitutions.


• Supervises pharmacy support staff.


• Participates in continuous quality improvement.


• May perform additional duties as assigned, including, but not limited to:
  
  
  • Participating in decentralized rounding with clinical teams.
  
  
  • Responding to emergent bedside alerts and codes (adult and pediatric as designated).
  
  
  • Precepting learners as appropriate.
  
  
  
  

Minimum Qualifications:

• Education: Doctorate of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor degree in Pharmacy.


• Licensure: Licensed Pharmacist in the state of VA.


• Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) for Critical Care and Emergency Medicine, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 90 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience: One (1) year hospital Pharmacist experience.
