Job summary

Inova Health System's Inova Retail and Specialty Pharmacy in Chantilly, VA is seeking a dedicated Clinical Pharmacist - Operations to join the team in a full-time, Monday–Friday role.

The pharmacist will interpret, verify and optimize medication orders, provide clinical consultation, monitor drug therapies, supervise support staff, and participate in continuous quality improvement, with opportunities for remote or hybrid work as offered.

Qualifications

• Licensed Pharmacist in VA.
• PGY1 Residency.
• BLS, ACLS, PALS within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Interprets, prepares, and verifies medication orders.
• Provides clinical consultation and cost-effective alternatives.
• Issues controlled substances per DEA/VA rules.
• Participates in formulary review/approval.
• Monitors drug therapies for interactions and appropriateness.
• Reports adverse drug reactions promptly.
• Minimizes non-formulary procurements and supports substitutions.
• Supervises pharmacy support staff.
• Participates in continuous quality improvement.
• May participate in decentralized rounding and respond to bedside alerts.

Clinical Pharmacist Job Responsibilities:

• Interprets, prepares, and verifies medication orders as appropriate.
• Provides clinical consultation and cost-effective alternatives.
• Issues controlled substances in compliance according to the DEA and VA Board of Pharmacy requirements.
• Participates in the medication formulary review and approval process.
• Monitors drug therapies for interactions, allergies, and appropriateness.
• Reports adverse drug reactions promptly and accurately.
• Minimizes non-formulary procurement and supports substitutions.
• Supervises pharmacy support staff.
• Participates in continuous quality improvement.
• May perform additional duties as assigned, including, but not limited to:
  • Participating in decentralized rounding with clinical teams.
  • Responding to emergent bedside alerts and codes (adult and pediatric as designated).

Minimum Qualifications:

• Education: Doctorate of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor degree in Pharmacy.

• Licensed Pharmacist in the state of VA.

• Experience: PGY1 Residency.

• Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) for Critical Care and Emergency Medicine, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 90 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

• One (1) year as a pharmacist.
