Job summary

Beth Israel Deaconess Milton is seeking a per diem Pharmacist to ensure timely compounding, preparation and dispensing of medications. Under supervision, the pharmacist reviews orders, provides drug information, and supports the health care team to optimize patient outcomes.

Milton, MA • Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital Milton • Per Diem • RotatingWhen you join the growing BILH team, you're not just taking a job, you’re making a difference in people’s lives.Beth Israel Deaconess Milton is committed to improving the health of our community by providing exceptional, personalized health care with dignity, compassion and respect.The Pharmacist performs a variety of professional duties to ensure that medications for all patients of BID Hospital – Milton be provided in conformance with current standards of quality pharmaceutical practice in a timely fashion.Under the supervision of the Director of Pharmacy, following established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, the Pharmacist performs a variety of functions related to the compounding, preparation, dispensing, and monitoring of drug therapies, as well as providing drug information.Job Description:Essential Core Responsibilities:Practices in accordance with the state and federal laws, rules, and regulations, including but not limited to Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy, Department of Public Health, the Food and Drug Administration, and the Drug Enforcement Administration. Maintains certification and credentials in accordance with the Board of Registration and adheres to institutional policies and procedures.Reviews and verifies medication orders with consideration, including but not limited to the following patient specific parameters: diagnosis, weight/body surface area, age, allergies, organ function, laboratory values, medication duplication, drug interactions. Clarifies orders deemed to be inappropriate, incomplete, or otherwise unclear with the prescriber in a timely manner.Documents and communicates pertinent information and discussion with the healthcare team and pharmacy staff to ensure continuity of care.Provides drug information to physicians, nurses and other health care professionals.Supervises the activities of students, technicians, and residents within the pharmacist area of practice, including checking medications such as compounded sterile products and prepared unit-dose medications, as needed.Promotes a culture of patient safety by submitting medication related events and near misses.Completes daily pharmacy surveillance tool monitoring, including follow-up and documentation, as well as other daily patient care initiatives.Works collaboratively with all pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and pharmacy personnel. Upholds a culture of respect and teamwork across the Pharmacy Department.Level Specific Responsibilities:Participates in the onboarding and training of new hiresPrecepts and evaluates students and/or residents in institutional capacity.Actively participates in continuous performance improvement activities of the department, including providing suggestions on how to improve day-to-day operations.Required Qualifications:0-2 years experienceActive Pharmacist license in MassachusettsPreferred Qualifications:Hospital work experiencePay Range:$57.00 – $76.71The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.
