Job summary

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED is required.
  • Experience in laboratory or hospital setting is preferred.
  • Superior customer service, medical terminology, basic anatomy, and ICD‑9 coding are beneficial.
  • Independent and self‑directing work style is important.

Responsibilities

  • Accessioning and determining specimen viability; resolve labeling/identification discrepancies.
  • Contact physicians regarding patient/order issues and ensure proper patient registration and billing.
  • Handle multiple specimen types including blood, tissue, urine, and other body fluids.
  • Provide professional customer service to clinicians and clients by phone and in person.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with CAP, OSHA, JCAHO, CMS, ODH and lab policies.
  • Train students and new employees.
  • Maintain competencies and fulfill educational requirements.
