We have spent over 40 years advocating for and creating a health-home for those denied access to care. As health care activists, we are dedicated to ensuring that individuals without healthcare coverage receive the same quality healthcare as others. Since our founding in 1971, we have understood that healing communities involves addressing economic and social factors affecting health, often providing services outside traditional settings to link individuals to our health center for preventive and primary care. Over 90,000 people visit La Clínica because it is a welcoming place that addresses the whole person, connecting them to a broad network of services to improve their health and well-being. While rooted in activism and social justice, we have grown into a sophisticated provider of primary health care across 35 sites in Alameda, Contra Costa, and Solano counties.

**Who you are:** We seek Clinical Office Assistants motivated to deliver excellent patient experiences and play a vital role in patient-centered care. You will be the first point of contact for patients, balancing efficiency with a human touch. Success requires enjoying interactions with diverse populations, thriving in a fast-paced environment, and remaining calm under pressure, even with challenging patients. You should be responsible, reliable, and capable of problem-solving while supporting team members.

**Major Responsibilities include but are not limited to:**

Customer Service
  • Greet visitors, determine purpose of visit, and register patients electronically.
  • Verify program eligibility and source of payment.
  • Collect payments, operate cash register, and maintain accurate records.
  • Resolve or escalate patient complaints.
  • Participate in revenue and satisfaction target efforts.
  • Answer calls, provide information, or route inquiries.
  • Schedule and confirm appointments.
General Office Duties
  • Sort mail, file, photocopy, and manage documents.
  • Handle lab results and other messages.
  • Enter data into medical records system.
  • Assist patients with forms.
  • Operate office equipment.
  • Monitor requests and complete or route as needed.
  • Manage inventory and supplies.
  • Maintain records.

  • Work effectively with the care team.
  • Participate in meetings and training.
  • Follow ethical standards and policies.
  • Complete required trainings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements
Knowledge
  • Basic medical/dental terminology and office procedures.
  • Customer service skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Outlook; familiarity with EHR systems preferred.
Abilities
  • Good judgment and customer service problem-solving skills.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Effective communication in English; bilingual in Spanish preferred.
  • Perform arithmetic calculations.
  • Typing speed of 25-30 wpm.
  • Self-motivated, independent, and team-oriented.
  • Flexible and adaptable.
  • Support diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Willing to participate in Saturday and evening shifts.
Other Certifications and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1-2 years in a clinical or similar office setting.
  • Health clearances for healthcare settings.
  • Medical Office Assistant Certification preferred.
