Job summary

Duke Health is seeking a Clinical Nurse for Duke South Durham Infusion in Durham, NC to join the infusion team and provide direct and indirect patient care. This role focuses on delivering safe, evidence-based nursing during infusion therapies in a busy outpatient setting.

Responsibilities include documenting care, administering infusion medications per orders, obtaining IV access, and educating patients. Strong emphasis on safety, compliance with JCAHO/OSHA, and teamwork within Duke Health

Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited BSN, ADN or Nursing Diploma program.
• Must have current or compact RN licensure in NC; NC licensure within 90 days if licensed elsewhere.
• BLS and ACLS certification required.
• Experience in infusion care preferred; Epic experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plan, provide and document professional nursing care during infusion.
• Administer infusion medications per orders or established protocols.
• Assess patient for signs of infusion reaction and respond appropriately.
• Obtain IV access and draw labs as needed.
• Review therapy plans for present orders and valid authorization weekly.
• Stock and maintain inventory of patient care supplies.
• Identify opportunities for safety and improvement and participate in PI projects.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a CLINICAL NURSE for Duke South Durham Infusion located in Durham, NC to be an integral member of the healthcare team and provide direct and indirect care to patients.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Plan, provide and document professional nursing care utilizing Maestro Care. Document nursing care provided and communicate appropriate nursing action taken and patient response to infusion in accordance with physician orders, policies and therapy plans.
• Administer infusion medications to patients as ordered by providers or by established protocols following the six rights of medication administration.
• Assess patient throughout infusion and post monitoring for any signs/symptoms of infusion reaction and treat appropriately.
• Obtains IV access; Performs blood draws for labs as needed.
• Reviews patient therapy plan for present orders and valid authorization weekly
• Perform patient education when needed
• Stock and maintains inventory of patient care supplies.
• Mix and prepare infusion medications under protocol when pharmacy is unavailable/afterhours.
• Identifies clinical, operational and safety related performance improvement opportunities, make recommendations for nursing care plans and participates in performance improvement projects.
• Maintain clinical environment to meet JCAHO and OSHA regulations.
• Attends safety huddle, staff meetings and in-services.
• Other duties as delegated by nurse manager, provider, or health center administrator

Job Eligibility Requirements:

• Work requires graduation from an accredited BSN or Associate's Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma program. Exception: Registered nurses hired between July 1, 2014 and April 11, 2021 without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) are expected to enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date but must complete the program within five years of their start date. Registered nurses hired before July 1, 2014 are not required to enroll in a BSN program to remain in this job classification.
• Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. If candidate has another compact state RN license, NC state licensure must be obtained within 90 days of hire
• BLS and ACLS is required.
• Ability to withstand prolonged standing and walking during 10hr shift with the ability to move or lift at least fifty pounds.
• Previous experience in an infusion care setting preferred
• Experience with Epic preferred or other computerized charting system preferred

Job Schedule:

The schedule for this position is weekday 4-10 hour day shifts with 1 Saturday per month.
