Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an experienced Nurse Educator to develop and lead orientation, in-services, continuing education, and residency programs for home health staff in New York. You will coach nurses during field visits, assess competencies, and support clinical management with training.

Requirements include NYS RN license, a BSN (Master's preferred), and strong PowerPoint/LMS skills. Fluency in English and Spanish is required to support diverse teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Sciences in Nursing required; NYS RN license active.
  • Master's Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2+) years of experience conducting training classes or as a Preceptor in a homecare environment.
  • Experience designing and facilitating training/learning solutions/sessions based on adult learning principles required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years performing participant home visits independently.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience working with a frail or elderly population, or appropriate PACE organization training upon hiring if under one year.
  • Current active and unrestricted license in NYS as a Registered Nurse required.
  • Legally authorized to practice in the State where the healthcare function is performed.
  • Medically cleared for communicable diseases and all immunizations up to date before direct participant contact.
  • Excellent written and presentation skills.
  • Fully bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Word, and other presentation software.
  • Familiarity with Learning Management Systems; Relias is a plus.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with minimum supervision and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of project coordination, business needs identification, work plans, budget control, time management, resource allocation, team management, and status reports.
  • Leadership, logic, and reasoning skills.
  • Ability to meet stated physical, mobility, lifting, sensory, communication, and cognitive requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Develop orientation programs, mandatory in-services, continuing education, and competency assessments.
  • Provide clinical education and guidance on workflows, documentation standards, EMR utilization, policies, regulatory requirements, infection control, and evidence-based practices.
  • Lead the Nursing residency program and other clinical residencies as needed.
  • Evaluate newly hired nursing staff during and after orientation and recommend additional training.
  • Conduct ride-alongs with home care nurses to observe practice, coach staff, reinforce best practices, and validate competencies in participant homes.
  • Complete field competency evaluations, annual competencies, remediation plans, return demonstrations, and competency sign-offs.
  • Collaborate with Clinical Management on participant home visits requiring advanced expertise, specialized skills, evaluations, training, or operational support.
  • Maintain knowledge of clinical systems, documentation processes, workflows, and home care practices.
  • Develop job aids, competency checklists, clinical reference guides, and educational materials.
  • Prepare and deliver instructor-led training using Microsoft PowerPoint, case studies, demonstrations, and hands-on learning.
  • Identify educational gaps, operational challenges, and process improvement opportunities through observations, audits, and field activities.
  • Collaborate with operational, clinical, quality, compliance, and interdisciplinary teams on educational materials, policies, procedures, workflows, and training programs.
  • Participate in Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement activities, chart audits, environmental safety reviews, infection control initiatives, and special projects.
  • Assist with nursing staff recruitment, interviewing, and candidate evaluation.
  • Participate in the Interdisciplinary Team, organizational committees, initiatives, and special assignments.
  • Coach and monitor new clinical staff through orientation and training.
  • Provide recommendations on orientation completion, training extensions, coaching, or termination based on performance and competency.
  • Document and communicate performance concerns, deficiencies, training progress, and corrective action recommendations.
  • Recommend corrective actions, retraining plans, and disciplinary processes when standards are not met.
  • Collaborate with leadership and Human Resources regarding performance concerns, remediation, and disciplinary recommendations.
  • Provide one-on-one field coaching and remediation for nurses.
