$28.00/hr - $42.00/hr

Consultant | Specialized Talent Solutions for Boston’s Life Sciences | QA/QC, Clinical, Laboratory Roles

Job Responsibilities:

• Perform microbiological testing on clinical specimens including blood, urine, respiratory, wound, and stool using manual and automated techniques.
• Culture and isolate microorganisms using appropriate media and incubation conditions.
• Identify bacterial, fungal, parasitic, and viral organisms through biochemical, immunologic, and molecular methods (e.g., MALDI-TOF, PCR).
• Conduct antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) using systems such as VITEK or manual disk diffusion methods.
• Prepare and interpret Gram stains and other diagnostic stains including AFB and fungal preps.
• Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment and instrumentation; perform routine calibrations and quality control procedures.
• Document and report test results accurately in the laboratory information system (LIS), ensuring timely communication of critical values.
• Adhere to regulatory and accreditation standards (CLIA, CAP, JCAHO) and participate in internal quality assurance activities.
• Collaborate with clinicians, infection control, and pharmacy teams as needed for organism identification and treatment guidance.
• Follow biosafety protocols and handle potentially infectious specimens using proper PPE and procedures.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Microbiology, or related life science field.
• Certification as a Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist (ASCP or equivalent) required or eligible is preffered.
• 1 year of clinical microbiology laboratory experience preferred; new graduates with strong clinical training will be considered.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a high-throughput, hospital-based lab setting.
• Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and communication abilities.
• Willingness to work rotating shifts, weekends, or holidays as required. Shift time options are 1st or 2nd
