Job summary

Inova Health in Northern Virginia is seeking an experienced RN Clinical Mentor for the Surgical Orthopedics unit to elevate nursing care through structured mentorship and education.

You will train, coach and support nursing staff, orient new hires and guide them through transitions into practice, while helping design and evaluate educational programs for ongoing clinical development and career progression.

Qualifications

• Bachelor0s Degree in Nursing is required.
• Minimum 2 years of progressive nursing experience in the designated specialty; 3 months of experience as a preceptor.
• BLS certification from the American Heart Association; licensed or eligible for licensure in Virginia as a Registered Nurse or active multi-state RN license.

Responsibilities

• Develop expertise in training, coaching and mentoring staff through promotion and delivery of high-quality nursing care.
• Orient, educate and develop nursing staff to ensure competence and ability to fulfill specified responsibilities.
• Provide support to novice and advanced nurses and preceptors to ensure a smooth transition into practice and the work environment.
• Integrate knowledge, skills and experiences to meet the clinical and social adjustment needs of all team members.
• Participate in the design, delivery and evaluation of educational programs to promote clinical development and career progression from novice to proficient nurse for new or existing clinicians.

Clinical Mentor Job Responsibilities

Hours: Full-time, M-F (regular office hours, with some flexibility as needed based on department needs)

Minimum Qualifications

• Education: Bachelors Degree in Nursing
• Experience: 2 years of progressive experience in nursing in designated specialty; 3 months of experience serving as preceptor.
• Certification: BLS from the American Heart Association; Licensed or eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse or an active multi-state RN License.

Preferred Qualifications

• Adult Inpatient RN experience
