Job summary

Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) seeks a General Practice Dentistry Preceptor to train students in diagnosis, treatment planning, sequencing and the actual treatment of patients.

The role includes supervising dental students in the LECOM Dental Group Practices, advising on consultations, and ensuring adherence to SDM and clinic manuals while maintaining patient flow and high educational standards.

Qualifications

• Must be able to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations.
• Experience with axiUm computer program entry and related systems.
• Knowledge of Patient Relations and Scheduling.
• Knowledge of ADA Coding.
• Compliance with OSHA and safety guidelines; protect equipment.
• Knowledge of patient/privacy (HIPAA/FERPA).
• Strong communications skills and MS Office proficiency; data entry accuracy.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Must hold a current PA dental license or be able to obtain one.
• Five (5) years or more of experience practicing general dentistry.

Responsibilities

• Advise students when consultations in various specialties are needed.
• Follow LECOM SDM Standardization manual and clinic manual.
• Supervise dental students in the LECOM Dental Group Practices.
• Instruct students to select, obtain and interpret patient data for comprehensive assessments.
• Provide basic clinical training in Oral Diagnosis, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Endodontics, Periodontics, Operative Dentistry, Fixed Prosthodontics, Removable Prosthodontics, Pediatrics, Orthodontics and Geriatrics.
• Attend meetings approved by SDM.
• Supervise a 10-chair patient practice area.
• Work with faculty and students to maintain patient flow.
• Take direction from Director of Patient Care Services and/or other management personnel.
• Be available for work during assigned hours for student instruction and practice development.
• Contribute to student success including advising and student outcomes.
• Participate in scholarly activity to enrich learning experiences.
• Represent LECOM in the community through boards, fundraising and outreach.
• Accept other duties needed/assigned for practice needs.
