Job summary

PACS Group is seeking a dedicated Medication Aide to assist with administering medications to residents under physician orders and nursing supervision. You will follow established facility policies and document each administration accurately to ensure resident safety and regulatory compliance.

The role emphasizes collaboration with nursing staff and physicians, participation in quality assurance programs, and meticulous documentation.

Qualifications

• Follow facility policies and procedures for medication administration.
• Accurately document medication administrations and related notes.
• Communicate effectively with nursing staff and physicians.

Responsibilities

• Follow the policies and procedures of the facility governing the administering of medications to residents.
• Note and report errors in the administration of medications
• Assist in developing and implementing procedures to determine medication errors and prevention
• Maintain and complete necessary forms, charts, and reports as required
• Maintain professional relationships with nursing staff, physicians, and pharmacists
• Report complaints or grievances by residents to the Director of Nursing Services
• Participate in facility surveys and QA programs related to medication administration
• Prepare, administer, and document oral/topical medications as ordered
• Verify medications brought by new residents are examined and identified by physicians or pharmacists
• Follow labeling policies and ensure proper labeling of all medications
• Chart medications and document discontinuations
• Handle drug receipt errors per facility procedures and report them
• Document drug receipt errors with appropriate observers
• Observe and verify patient ingestion or application of medications and document refusals
• Notify nursing leadership of medication errors or reactions
• Verify resident identity before administering medications
• Record vital signs and monitor patient status
• Permit self-administration of medications when allowed by facility policy
• Understand common medical abbreviations and terminology used in medication administration
• Attend continuing education to maintain certification and stay current in practice
• Protect resident health information and report any disclosures or breaches
