Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of a Medical Assistant training program with certificate OR 1-3 years experience as a medical assistant, EMT or CNA (with valid certificate) OR successful completion of the Northwell Health Medical Assistant training program.

Responsibilities

• Collaborates with health care team to coordinate and implement patient care plans; may record reasons for visit and related information for practitioner review.
• Performs vital signs, height, weight, and screening procedures; documents findings in the medical record.
• Collects and assists in collection of specimens using appropriate protocols; completes requisitions, labels and routes specimens.
• Performs daily controls and calibration of laboratory equipment; informs supervisor of inaccuracies.
• Performs electrocardiograms and phlebotomy per provider orders; adheres to infection control standards.
• Assists physicians and nurses with procedures following infection control and universal protocol; prepares supplies and assists patient post-procedure.
• Maintains exam rooms; stocks supplies and completes required checks and logs.
• May assist with pre-visit chart prep by ensuring lab results and documentation are available.
• Performs various clerical functions: filing, processing insurance forms, preparing financial records, answering phones, and ensuring patient flow.
• All responsibilities are considered essential functions under the ADA.
