Job summary

Northwell Health is seeking a Medical Assistant to perform patient care under physician and nurse supervision, prepare patients for examination, assist with diagnostic tests, and help organize and file reports in the medical record.

Responsibilities include taking vital signs, collecting specimens, performing ECGs and phlebotomy, and supporting procedures with proper infection control and patient handling. You will also handle basic clerical tasks to keep patient flow efficient.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent, required.
• Completion of a Medical Assistant training program with certificate OR 1-3 years experience as a medical assistant, EMT or CNA (with valid certificate).
• Additional salary detail: the salary range and/or hourly rate may be determined as a good faith determination at the time of advertisement and may be modified later.

Responsibilities

• Collaborates with health care team in coordinating and implementing plans for patient care; may record reason for visit and related patient information for practitioner review.
• Performs vital signs, height, weight, and screening procedures; documents findings in the medical record.
• Collects and assists in collection of specimens using appropriate protocols; completes requisitions, labels and routes specimens according to standard procedure.
• Performs and documents daily controls and calibration of laboratory equipment; informs supervisor if inaccuracies are found.
• Performs electrocardiograms and phlebotomy per provider orders; adheres to infection control standards (hand hygiene, PPE, isolation, sterilization).
• Assists physicians and nurses with special procedures and examinations following infection control and universal protocols; prepares supplies and assists patient as required.
• Maintains clean examination rooms; stocks supplies and maintains required logs and equipment checks.
• May assist in pre-visit chart preparation by ensuring required lab results and documentation are available for practitioner review.
• Performs clerical duties (filing, insurance forms, financial records, phone coverage) to ensure efficient patient flow through the suite.
