Job summary

MedStar Health is seeking a Medical Assistant to perform clinical and administrative duties in an ambulatory care setting under supervision of a physician/provider and/or RN. Responsibilities include venipuncture, vaccine administration, vital signs, patient preparation for exams, and clerical support.

The role may float to other sites within the MedStar Health system. The position requires 6 months of MA experience in ambulatory care or related externships, completion of an accredited MA

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
• 6 months experience in ambulatory care medical office or equivalent.
• Externship in medical/ambulatory setting strongly preferred.
• Cardiology offices: 6 months experience or related degree/certification.
• Prior MA experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Contributes to department goals and adheres to policies and safety standards.
• Assists providers with patient preparation, examinations, and education.
• Maintains patient flow and provides clerical support as needed.
• Participates in daily team huddles and reviews scheduled visits.
• Screens patients for preventive care needs and barriers to care.
• Performs patient and laboratory testing within scope of practice.
• Documents activities in EMR and conducts follow-ups as required.
• Floats to other sites within the system as needed.
