Job summary

The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and a Medical Assistant certificate or 1–3 years’ related experience such as EMT/CNA, or completion of Northwell Health’s Medical Assistant program.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of a Medical Assistant training program with certificate OR 1–3 years of experience as a medical assistant, EMT, or CNA (with valid certificate).
• Successful completion of Northwell Health Medical Assistant training program may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Collaborates with health care team to coordinate and implement plans for patient care; may record reason for visit and related patient information for practitioner review.
• Measures vital signs, height, weight, and screening procedures; documents findings in the medical record.
• Collects and assists providers in collection of specimens per protocol; completes requisitions and routes specimens.
• Performs and documents daily controls/calibration of laboratory equipment; informs supervisor of inaccuracies.
• Performs electrocardiograms and phlebotomy per provider orders; adheres to infection control standards.
• Assists physicians and nurses with procedures following infection control and universal protocol; prepares supplies and assists patient before/after procedures.
• Maintains examination rooms orderliness; stocks rooms, completes required logs and checks.
• May assist in pre-visit chart preparation by ensuring required lab results are available in the medical record.
• Performs related clerical duties such as filing, processing insurance forms, preparing financial records, answering phones, and ensuring flow of patients.
