Job summary

UVA Health is seeking a Medical Assistant to provide clinical and administrative support in an ambulatory setting under supervision of a physician or designee. You will conduct patient care, vital signs, lab testing, and data collection while ensuring efficient clinic operations.

The role requires a high school diploma, BLS certification, and national MA certification. You will assist with intake, specimen handling, and patient education, contributing to a safe, patient-centered environment

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience: None required.
• Licensure: AHA Health Care Provider BLS certification required. Current Medical Assistant Certification through a recognized national professional association such as the AAMA, AMT, NAHP, ARMA, or the NHA.

Responsibilities

• Assists in assuring effective and efficient clinic operations with communication to team members, referring providers, and patients.
• Assists with data collection for physical, psychological, social, and cultural dimensions according to standards and policy.
• Completes standardized rooming and performs clinical intake, data collection, and documentation.
• Provides clinical support to licensed professionals, including specimen handling, testing, cleaning/sterilization, and wound care.
• Organizes and prioritizes daily work to support patient needs and operational efficiency.
• Implements age-appropriate interventions as directed by the Health Care Provider.
• Reinforces patient/family teaching with approved materials or instructions.
• Maintains a safe environment and safe delivery of care.
• Documents charges for clinical services rendered within the patient visit.
• Performs administrative duties: letters, forms, scheduling, medication refills, in-basket messaging, chart prep.
• Demonstrates teamwork and prioritizes time-sensitive issues.
• Pursues professional development as per department policy.
• Other duties may be assigned.
