Clinical Manager – Flow Cytometry/Hematology
Boston, MA

Job Description:

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Ensures staffing and training in the section, meets clinical demands and provider expectations for workload, including meeting turnaround time expectations; partners with Medical Technologist Leaders to ensure appropriate scheduling and manage fluctuating workflow.
  • Communicates upcoming changes and the overall state of the Pathology Department and the Medical Center to staff; empowers employees to meet the Medical Center’s expectations; partners with the section Medical Director(s) to ensure patient care needs are met and serves as a liaison between medical and technical staff.
  • Completes performance reviews in a timely manner, addresses employee concerns and suggestions to maintain high morale, acknowledges good performance, coaches under‑performing staff, and ensures all corrective actions are performed under Human Resources guidance.
  • Selects and implements technology (instrumentation) with Medical Directors, Managers, and technical staff; addresses related issues including information systems, ensures changes are communicated and controlled; performs venipunctures, including blood culture collection and fingersticks, ensuring proper specimen ID/labeling and vein preservation techniques.
  • Maintains compliance with all accrediting and regulatory agencies (CAP, CLIA, JCAHO), discipline specific standards such as AABB, including quality improvement, documentation, procedure review and revision, proficiency testing, safety, and competency; ensures policies and procedures are updated as required.
  • Has authority to direct and support managers with functional area responsibilities; responsible for hiring, termination, corrective action, and performance reviews; manages direct reports (7+), indirect reports (21‑50).
  • Has full responsibility for planning, monitoring, and managing budgets for multiple departments.

Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science / Medical Technology or Biological Science.
Preferred Education: MBA, MHA, MPH or related MS and a Master’s degree preferred.
Required Work Experience: 5+ years full‑time experience; 7+ years progressively in supervisory or managerial roles preferred; 3+ years in a related supervisory role required.
License/Registration/Certification: ASCP certified generalist or categorical Technologist or equivalent accreditation.
Other Requirements: Demonstrates autonomy, critical thinking, project leadership, fiscal responsibility, high proficiency with computers, web‑based applications, Microsoft Office (especially Excel).

  • Customer Service: Leads initiatives to meet or exceed customer service standards and expectations within the unit and across multiple areas.

Physical Nature of the Job: Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently; mainly sedentary but requires standing and moving throughout the hospital campus.

Pay Range: $110,000.00 – $150,000.00 USD (annual base salary).
