Job summary

Aurora Health Care is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician to perform and monitor laboratory tests, ensuring accuracy and timely reporting. The role requires handling specimens professionally and maintaining patient confidentiality in a fast-paced environment.

The technician will support phlebotomists, uphold quality control, and participate in proficiency testing while adhering to accreditation standards.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or NAACLS/ASCP-approved program or equivalent education and training.
• AMT or ASCP certification preferred.
• Experience level: n/a.

Responsibilities

• Performs, evaluates, and monitors lab tests within established protocols.
• Documents calibration, maintenance, and quality control of instruments.
• Recognizes instrument malfunctions and notifies supervisor.
• Collects specimens from various age groups per protocol.
• Provides technical assistance to Phlebotomists and staff.
• Improves lab procedures while ensuring accrediting standards compliance.
• Performs proficiency testing in line with guidelines.
• Performs specialty testing across transfusion, microbiology, chemistry, hematology, histology, coagulation, and flow cytometry.
• Supports critical care departments with timely lab results during high acuity events.
• Demonstrates knowledge to provide age-appropriate patient care.
