Job summary

Brown University Health seeks a Medical Laboratory Technician to perform routine and specialized studies on blood, urine and body fluids under supervision of a pathologist and Administrative Laboratory Director. You will rotate through clinical lab departments, complete training, adhere to quality control procedures, label and store specimens properly, and participate in staff mentoring and meetings.

AAS or higher in MLT or related field and MLT certification are required or achievable within

Qualifications

• 1-3 years preferred; rotation through all clinical laboratory departments or its equivalent.
• Requires three months clinical training and on the job training to become familiar with the hospital's policy and procedures and to become proficient in all phases of the job requirements.
• May be assigned to a specific department in the lab or may rotate in a minimum of two or a maximum of all departments.
• Comply with established standards and practices/procedures. Ensure timely completion of assigned tasks in conformance with established policies and standards.
• Follows established protocols for quality control procedures to ensure proper functioning of instruments, reagents and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Performs a wide variety of routine and specialized studies on blood, urine and body fluids samples as requisitioned by a physician.
• Under the technical supervision of a pathologist and administrative supervision of the Administrative Laboratory Director.
• Demonstrates professional conduct and maintains a courteous environment for patients and staff.
• Assembles supplies and equipment and ensures proper functioning and cleanliness of equipment and workspace.
• Attends staff meetings and contributes to mentoring of others.

Education

Associates or higher in MLT or related field per ASCP Regulations

MLT Certificate

Associate or bachelor's Degree in related field, with 3 years of experience
