Job summary

Labcorp is seeking a Laboratory Technician to join our team at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, MA. The role involves verifying specimen acceptability, performing routine and complex testing, and maintaining instrumentation to ensure accurate results.

The position is 2nd shift on a per diem schedule with a 10% shift differential, offering opportunities to contribute to high-volume laboratory work and to grow within Labcorp’s global health network.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in chemical or biological science, CLIA standards, or medical technology.
  • ASCP or AMT certification preferred.
  • Ability to work in a high-volume laboratory and pass a color-vision test.

Responsibilities

  • Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria
  • Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental SOPs
  • Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality
  • Make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving
  • Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls
  • Report accurate and timely test results to deliver quality patient care
  • Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
  • Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary
  • Assist with processing of specimens when needed
  • Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate PPE

Job Responsibilities
  • Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria
  • Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures

Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3 months or more of clinical laboratory testing experience
  • ASCP or AMT certification
Additional Job Standards
  • In lieu of education requirements listed above, non-traditional degrees with applicable science credits that meet CLIA standards may meet education requirements
  • Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures
  • Experience working in a high volume laboratory environment
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems
  • High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position
  • Able to pass a standardized color blindness test
  • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs

Pay Range

Pay Range: $30.00 - $37.01 per hour + Shift Differential

  • All job offers will be based on a candidate’s skills and prior relevant experience, applicable degrees/certifications, as well as internal equity and market data.
  • Benefits: Employees regularly scheduled to work 20 or more hours per week are eligible for comprehensive benefits including: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, STD/LTD, 401(k), Paid Time Off (PTO) or Flexible Time Off (FTO), Tuition Reimbursement and Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
  • Employees regularly scheduled to work less than 20 hours, Casual, Intern, and Temporary employees are only eligible to participate in the 401(k) Plan.
  • Employees who are regularly scheduled to work a 7 on/7 off schedule are eligible to receive all the foregoing benefits except PTO or FTO.
