Job summary

Cape Fear Valley Health System is seeking a knowledgeable MLS with MLS(ASCP) certification to perform analysis of laboratory specimens and report results in a timely manner.

The role requires adherence to CAP/JCAHO standards, maintenance of instruments, and possible phlebotomy duties. Flexible scheduling and cross-site support are expected within the Core Laboratory in Fayetteville, NC.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or Medical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology from an accredited institution with MLS(ASCP) required
• Knowledge of laboratory functions and specimen requirements
• Effective communications skills to include listening, writing, talking, and reading

Responsibilities

• Provides direction and guidance for questions and problems referred by an MLT concerning specimen acceptability, unusual or discrepant results and instrument or method problems
• Performs accurate and appropriate testing of specimens received in the laboratory, according to established laboratory protocol and procedures
• Reports test results in a timely manner and according to established laboratory protocol and procedures
• Follows established procedures for laboratory quality control
• Responsible for CAP, JCAHO and other regulatory agency standards
• Performs maintenance on instruments and equipment as appropriate
• Follows hospital policies for universal precautions, safety and related procedures
• Assists with orientation of laboratory procedures for students and/or new laboratory employees
• Performs phlebotomy (as required)
• Floats to other laboratory sites as workload requires
• Other duties as assigned

Education
