Job summary

Northwestern Medicine seeks a Medical Laboratory Scientist to perform comprehensive laboratory testing in a high-volume clinical setting. You will manage pre-analytic, analytic and post-analytic workflows, ensuring accurate results and timely reporting to support patient diagnosis and treatment.

The role requires ASCP certification or eligibility, a relevant degree, and strict adherence to SOPs and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, MLS, or equivalent required.
• License/Certification by a regulatory agency required.
• General MLS or MT (ASCP) Certification or eligible.
• Categorical BB, C, H or M (ASCP) Certification or eligible.
• If hired after 1/19/2025, ASCP certification within one year of employment.

Responsibilities

• Performs all aspects of pre-analytic workflow to ensure correct orders and specimen handling.
• Performs analytical testing following SOPs and maintains quality control.
• Verifies results and provides interpretations with correlation to patient data.
• Ensures safety and regulatory compliance and participates in training.
• Supports post-analytic workflow including reporting and billing where applicable.
