Job summary

Northwestern Medicine in Chicago, IL seeks a Medical Laboratory Scientist to perform test procedures in a clinical laboratory and report results to physicians, ensuring accuracy and timely turnaround for patient diagnosis and treatment.

Responsibilities include managing pre-analytic workflow, verifying orders, performing analytical testing, QC, instrument maintenance, result verification, and compliant documentation while upholding safety and privacy standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or related field and ASCP certification or eligible.
• General MLS/MT (ASCP) certification or eligible.
• Categorical BB, C, H, or M (ASCP) certification or eligible.
• If hired after 1/19/2025 must be ASCP certified within one year of employment.

Responsibilities

• Performs pre-analytic workflow to ensure correct orders and specimen suitability.
• Verifies orders and non-patient information as per protocol.
• Performs analytical testing following SOPs and maintains QC.
• Maintains instrument/reagent quality; ensures proper storage and inventory.
• Processes post-analytic steps including reporting results and documentation.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemistry, Biology, or Allied Health qualifying the applicant to take the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), or equivalent certification examination.

General MLS or MT (ASCP) Certification or eligible

Categorical BB, C, H or M (ASCP) Certification or eligible

ASCP certification within one year of employment (if hired after 1/19/2025)
