Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist to uphold the code of ethics and perform test procedures in a clinical laboratory. You will convey accurate results to physicians for patient diagnosis, participate in pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic steps, and ensure quality control and adherence to SOPs.

Qualifications include a Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or related field and ASCP certification or eligibility; prior LIS experience and instrument maintenance

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemistry, Biology, or Allied Health qualifying the applicant to take the ASCP or equivalent certification exam.
• ASCP certification or eligibility required/obtainable within one year of employment.

Responsibilities

• Performs all aspects of pre-analytic workflow to ensure correct orders and specimen processing.
• Performs analytical testing following SOPs and maintains test system integrity.
• Performs post-analytic duties including reporting results and ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
• Verifies specimens for compliance with labeling, suitability for tests, and proper notification as needed.
• Maintains quality control procedures and participates in proficiency testing and training.
