Job summary

The California State University Health Services seeks a Clinical Laboratory Scientist to provide laboratory services supporting student healthcare operations. The incumbent performs specimen collection, testing, processing, reporting, and records in accordance with California licensure requirements and applicable regulations.

Reporting to the Laboratory and Ancillary Services Manager, the CLS collaborates with healthcare providers, staff and students to promote quality, patient-centered care,

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in clinical laboratory science or approved alternative as defined by CA standards.
• Valid California CLS license or eligibility for one.
• Knowledge of phlebotomy and lab safety protocols.

Responsibilities

• Perform clinical laboratory testing, specimen collection, processing, analysis and reporting.
• Conduct skin punctures and venipuncture following aseptic technique.
• Carry out quality control, instrument calibration and maintenance, documentation.
• Process and label specimens for in-house and external testing; maintain patient records.
• Support accreditation, licensure, inventory, training and quality improvement initiatives.
