MU Health Care is seeking a part-time Clinical Laboratory Assistant for weekend shifts (Sat/Sun 4:00 AM-8:00 AM with holiday rotation) on-site at University Hospital in Columbia, MO. You will ensure precise sample collection, processing, and distribution for analysis, contributing to safe, high-quality patient care.

The role requires attention to detail, collaboration, and compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Phlebotomy training and/or certification preferred.
• Some college coursework in a science field preferred.
• Chauffeur license Class E or higher for Missouri residents preferred.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to laboratory policies and accrediting standards (CAP, CLIA, DNV).
• Process and deliver specimens to the correct location, on-site or off-site.
• Support department quality measures and goals.
• Order requested testing in the LIS, back order testing as needed, and advise on ICD-10 codes.
• Communicate with stakeholders inside and outside the hospital.
• Provide weekend and holiday shift coverage and assist with staffing multiple sites.
• Perform phlebotomy and specimen collection following SOPs and ensure specimen integrity.
• Complete department duties as outlined in documents.

Compensation:

• Base Pay Range: $17.92- $28.27 per hour, based on experience
• Shift Differentials:
• Additional $1.00 per hour for evening/night shift
• Additional $1.00 per hour for weekend shift
• Additional $2.00 per hour for weekend evening/night shift
• Sign-On Bonus: $1,500

DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION

• Adhere to laboratory policies and accrediting standards including CAP, CLIA, and DNV.
• Process and deliver specimens to the appropriate location, on or off-site. This includes other laboratory settings or Reference Laboratory companies.
• Contribute positively to department quality measures and goals.
• Order requested testing in the laboratory computer system, back order testing as needed, and acquire appropriate ICD-10 codes. Assist health care providers with ordering appropriate tests utilizing the Supervisor, Pathologist or University of Missouri Health Care Test Catalog.
• Manage communication with a variety of stakeholders in and outside the hospital setting.
• Ability to take call as assigned. Provide weekend and holiday shift coverage and assist with staffing multiple laboratory sites as needed.
• Pre-analytical sections will gain competency in venipuncture, heel sticks, finger sticks and swabbing and fluid collections utilizing provided supplies and equipment. This includes, but not limited to, performing phlebotomy, positive patient identification, positive patient interaction, proper specimen collection, reduced hemolysis rates and specimen integrity according to established operating procedures.
• May complete unit/department specific duties and expectations as outlined in department documents.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Some college coursework in a science related field.
• Chauffeur driver license; class E or higher for Missouri residents.
• Phlebotomy training and/or certification.
• Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.
