University of Missouri Health Care is seeking a dynamic laboratory leader to supervise hematology, coagulation and flow cytometry operations. The role emphasizes quality, safety, mentoring and operational excellence in a fast-paced academic health system.

The ideal candidate provides ownership, practical problem-solving and a culture of continuous improvement while guiding staff development and ensuring compassionate patient service. This is a full-time on-site position in mid-Missouri.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in biological or physical sciences or equivalent experience.
• Three years of technical experience in a hospital or lab setting.
• ASCP/AMT/HHS accreditation may be required to meet accreditation requirements; supervisory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and/or instruct technical support personnel (including students) performing tests.
• Coordinate quality control procedures, records, reporting and scheduling.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, supplies, and handling of infectious materials and hazardous chemicals.
• Troubleshoot specialized and routine laboratory equipment and perform maintenance.
• Perform highly specialized procedures and supervise routine tests as needed.
• Ensure regulatory and accreditation requirements are met in the lab.
• Instruct and supervise students rotating through the lab.
• Interview, hire, train, and evaluate support staff.
• Develop and maintain daily staffing schedules for appropriate coverage.
• Monitor time and attendance according to MU Health Care policies.

DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION

Supervise and/or instruct the work of technical support personnel (including students) performing a variety of standard and specialized research or medical diagnostic tests.

Coordinate (or assist in the coordination of) quality control procedures for the laboratory, including record keeping/reporting and scheduling, as necessary.

Supervise the proper maintenance of laboratory, lab equipment, supplies, and handling/disposal of infectious materials and hazardous chemicals/materials.

Troubleshoot specialized and routine laboratory equipment and perform limited maintenance, as necessary.

Perform highly specialized or complex procedures in the laboratory as necessary and perform more routine tests as necessitated by personnel shortages.

Comply with all appropriate regulatory and accreditation requirements applicable to the laboratory environment being supervised.

Instruct and supervise students rotating through the laboratory.

Interview, hire, train, and evaluate (or assist) support staff.

Develop, coordinate, and maintain daily staffing schedules to ensure the appropriate level of unit coverage and continuity of care.

Monitor time and attendance in alignment with MU Health Care policies and practices, ensuring accuracy of records and timely submittal/approval for payroll purposes

May complete unit/department specific duties and expectations as outlined in department documents.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in the biological or physical sciences, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired.

Depending on the laboratory, a bachelor's degree in medical technology or registration as a Medical Technologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or an equivalent accreditation group (AMT, HEW/HHS) may be required to meet accreditation requirements. Where no specific requirement exists, one (1) additional year of technical experience will be added to experience requirement.

Three (3) years of technical experience in specified area in a hospital or similar laboratory setting.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Supervisory experience is preferred.

Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.
