Job summary

Revvity Omics seeks a laboratory technician to prepare specimens, perform clinical tests, and protect patient PHI in a CLIA/CAP compliant lab. You will follow SOPs, calibrate instruments, and record data accurately.

Requires a Bachelor's degree in life or physical sciences with lab experience. This on-site role in Pittsburgh offers competitive pay, benefits, and opportunities to contribute to genomic screening services.

  • Experience handling specimens and following standard operating procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare specimens for analysis and organize tests to be performed.
  • Perform clinical testing according to SOPs, including specimen handling and test analyses.
  • Access and handle protected health information (PHI) per policies and regulations.
  • Prepare and label reagents required for laboratory testing.
  • Perform general lab duties such as glassware cleaning and reagent making.
  • Verify instrument function by calibration and data documentation.
  • Maintain legible work records and quality control samples.
  • Adhere to laboratory quality control policies and safety procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with leadership, team members, and customers.

Overview

Revvity Omics, a division of Revvity, is a clinical molecular and biochemical laboratory offering prenatal, newborn, and lifetime whole‑genome screening and diagnostic testing. Our goal is to provide valuable and insightful information about potential underlying genetic conditions, guiding patients and providers to improved health outcomes.

Role & Responsibilities
  • Prepares specimens for analysis and organizes tests to be performed.
  • Performs clinical testing according to standard operating procedures, including specimen handling, processing, and test analyses.
  • Accesses and handles protected health information (PHI) in accordance with laboratory policies, procedures, and federal regulations.
  • Prepares and properly labels reagents required for laboratory testing.
  • Performs general laboratory duties such as glassware cleaning and reagent making.
  • Verifies proper instrument function by checking and calibrating laboratory instruments and documents data.
  • Maintains legible work records, demonstrating proficiency testing samples are treated the same as patient specimens.
  • Adheres to laboratory quality control policies and documents all quality control activities.
  • Follows established policies when test systems fall outside acceptable performance levels.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area and follows safety, security, and environmental procedures.
  • Communicates effectively with leadership, team members, and customers.
  • Follows instructions from supervisors and all leadership.
  • Performs all duties in compliance with CLIA, CAP, and local regulations.
  • Reports potential safety hazards promptly to supervisors.
  • Understands ergonomic relationships between people, equipment, and the working environment.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a life or physical science such as chemistry, biology, molecular biology, or medical technology, with laboratory experience (undergraduate or professional).
Working Conditions

Clinical and research lab environment; exposure to blood‑borne pathogens; required protective lab gear including lab coat, gloves, and closed footwear. Employees may be requested to work shifts other than daylight depending on laboratory needs, and weekend rotation may be required. Travel is not required.

Physical Requirements

Job duties include sitting, using a keyboard, typing, and occasionally standing and moving to other parts of the lab. Manual dexterity is required for lab equipment operation. Lifting up to 25 pounds is necessary.

Compensation

Base salary range: $22 per hour – $23 per hour. The actual offer will consider internal equity, work location, and additional factors such as skills and experience. This range does not include bonuses, equity, or other benefits, which may be applicable and depend on the level and position offered.
